~~~ The Answer ~~~
Sun striking scatters in pieces
Upon the quick flowing water.
And under that what lives?
I want to find out.
I turned over a field stone,
And gazing there long
Saw creatures at work.
But to what end?
Looking up, the sky shimmering,
And beheld eyes in the sky!
Who, circling round and round,
Searched for I did not know.
I stand alone by the river,
And follow it's course
With my eyes to the horizon,
To see beginning and end.
I made lunch of strawberries,
Found along my path to nowhere.
From flower to fruit,
From that to flower again.
To sandy top I climb at last;
Where wind blows most fierce.
And there let go a lusty yell,
"I am! What are you?"
The earth, sky and sun remain,
Unchanged yet somehow different.
The wind whispered the answer
From far far away.
