Jesus' Healing Acts by Contrast:
Jesus consistently emphasized that his healings were not due to his own power, but to the power of God and the faith of those who were healed.
- "A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, 'Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.'
Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. 'I am willing,' he said. 'Be clean!' Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy. Then Jesus said to him, 'See that you don't tell anyone.'" Matthew 8:2-4, Mark 1:40-44
- "When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. 'Lord,' he said, 'my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly...' Then Jesus said to the centurion, 'Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.' And his servant was healed at that moment." Matthew 8:5,13
- A woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him [Jesus] and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, 'If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.' Jesus turned and saw her. 'Take heart, daughter,' he said, 'your faith has healed you.'" Matthew 9:20-22, Luke 8:43-48
- "As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, 'Have mercy on us, Son of David!' He asked them, 'Do you believe that I am able to do this?' 'Yes, Lord,' they replied. Then he touched their eyes and said, 'According to your faith let it be done to you'; and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, 'See that no one knows about this.'" Matthew 9:27-30
- "Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, 'Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly...' Then Jesus said to her, 'Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.' And her daughter was healed at that moment." Matthew 15:21-22,28
- "Some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk... Jesus took him aside, away from the crowd. He put his fingers into the man's ears, then he spit and touched the man's tongue. He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him, 'Ephphatha!' At this, the man's ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly. Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone." Mark 7:32-36
- They came to Jericho... A blind man, Bartimaeus, was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, 'Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!' 'What do you want me to do for you?' Jesus asked him. The blind man said, 'Rabbi, I want to see.' 'Go,' said Jesus, 'your faith has healed you.' Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road." Mark 10:46-47,51-52, Luke 18:35-42
- A man named Jairus, a synagogue leader, came and fell at Jesus' feet, pleading with him to come to his house because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying... Someone came from the house of Jairus, 'Your daughter is dead,' he said. 'Don’t bother the teacher anymore.' But he [followed and] took her by the hand and said, 'My child, get up!' Her spirit returned, and at once she stood up... Her parents were astonished, but he ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened." Luke 8:41-42,49,54-56
- "As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, 'Jesus, Master, have pity on us!' He said, 'Go, show yourselves to the priests.' And as they went, they were cleansed. One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. Jesus asked, 'Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?' Then he said to him, 'Rise and go; your faith has made you well.'" Luke 17:12-19
